My Story
I'd like to tell you a bit about how I was inspired to create Claire's World Maps. I have always been artistic and creative, which has helped me to pursue an exciting career in art. Over the past decade, I have been a puppet and model maker for various children's TV shows, a sculptor for Wes Anderson's film 'Isle of Dogs' and a set designer for the Winter Wonderland Experience in my home city of Swansea, Wales.
I had always wanted to use my skills at home, so, when I fell pregnant with my first son, I decided to paint a large World map on his wall! This started out as just decoration, but soon became something much more significant in our lives. As he grew, so did his interest in the map...
As a baby, he would stare wide-eyed at the wall, but as he got older, he became more aware of how interesting and diverse the World is. He loved pointing out the various drawings I had created. As a first-time mum, it helped me to teach him about the World. Together, we discovered interesting facts about exotic countries, wild animals and famous landmarks. He soon learned how to describe them and I was surprised at how much we both referred to his wall when we spent time together. Eventually, I realised just how important the painting had become for our family, helping us to bond, while learning about the World and all of its wonders.
When we decided to move home, I was faced with the sad fact that I would have to leave the map behind! So, I recreated the map as a canvas, which we could take with us to our new home and keep forever.
I received overwhelming interest from friends and family, who were amazed by the decorative quality, alongside the fun and learning that the world map offered. This helped me realise that others can share in our experience and that 'Claire's World Map' should be available to everyone. It makes me extremely happy to think that other people are decorating their homes with my hand-drawn map and enjoying the opportunity to help their children learn about the world.
Claire's World Maps are now available to all, and come as a canvas in 5 sizes, as well as, posters and framed prints. I love receiving comments and photos of children enjoying their World Maps.

How can Claire's world maps be used for home education?
Like any parent, I have always found home education challenging. That's why
I have created 'Claire's World Atlas' as the perfect accompaniment to the wall maps. it is full of interesting and educational facts about the drawings on the world map. I have learnt a great deal from this project and I hope my book will encourage other parents to engage their children with some of the fascinating and amusing things the planet has to offer.
